The Groene Hart is a true paradise for active water sports enthusiasts. Each lake or river has its own unique characteristics. De Rotte river, the centre of the recreational area the Rottemeren, makes the heart of owners of pleasure crafts beat faster. You can make splendid canoeing trips through the Loet area, on the Vlist and in the water-rich area around Alphen aan den Rijn. Windsurfing on the Reeuwijkse Plassen and even waterskiing and wakeboarding are among the possibilities at Wet ’n Wild in Alphen aan den Rijn!

Fishing enthusiasts will have no difficulty in finding a good fishing spot in the Groene Hart. In the lake areas of Nieuwkoop and the Rottemeren, both known for its excellent fishing waters, fishing enthusiasts can catch bream and carp. 

A special event entirely in the theme of water are the Goudse Havenstaddagen (Gouda Harbour Town Days)(for date see events overview). The powerful songs of various shanty choirs resound in the centre of the town and splendid ships can be seen in Museum Haven Gouda (Gouda Harbour Museum). 

Round trips
The region offers various possibilities for making fantastic round trips. Come along on the round trip from Gouda to the Reeuwijkse Plassen or combine a day out in Bird Park Avifauna with a round trip on the Braassemermeer. And in the summer months you can take the “Water Bus” from Schoonhoven to Dordrecht. 

Sport
Are you keen on golf? Bordered by a landscape dominated by the Hollandse IJssel river, pastures and groves, you can play golf on a 9-hole golf course. Riding horseback, swimming, bowling and skating are also among the possibilities.
